Live: Rihanna's ANTI World Tour Hits DC

rihanna-en-concert-au-werchter-boutique-festival-700x420After a few postponement scares, seven other cities, and a couple special guest appearances, Rihanna's ANTI World Tour (named after her ANTI album) hit Washington, DC's Verizon Center. Of course, social media and blogs had given some things away already but there were still some surprises that really helped to make for a great show.

Travis Scott, fresh off a national tour with The Weeknd, was very comfortable on stage and was going crazy despite the light, early crowd. Performing all of his new random singles like Bake Sale, A Team, and Whole Lotta Lovin helped to make this performance different from previous tours. Still he closed with 3500 and Antidote. Fans assisted on both as he walked right into the crowd and just stuck the mic in someone's face. By the end of the set the place was full and everyone was singing along to Antidote.
Rihanna's set began with the best stage rollout I have ever seen. Everything was dark save for a spotlight in the back of the floor seats. Two halves of a stage began to come together over the top of the sound box, which still had people in it. Everybody was screaming as Rihanna came out singing FourFive Seconds. Then, a short walkway hanging from the rafters came down in front of the stage and Rihanna walked on and started performing as the walkway moved back and forth. It was incredible, especially from the floor because you're looking up at her.
Eventually the walkway took her to the front stage where she continued to perform hit after hit. They may as well have been anthems the way the crowd was chanting along. Rihanna was dancing more than singing, but nobody seemed to care. Cheers and laughs were heard as she hit the Milly Rock, Dab, and Schmoney Dance throughout the performance.
By the time she got into the new material she had a full band on stage, along with back up dancers and singers. Rihanna even dedicated a portion of the show to the popular hooks she has done like Run This Town and Live Your Life.
Work rang off of course and she closed with We Found Love. While not a great vocal display, the performance was still great. Rihanna's ability to capture and keep the crowd fully engaged was amazing. Guys and girls alike were fully into it the whole time. Go see Rihanna if you have the chance.
