The 2014 the Smokers Clubs Tour came to the Fillmore in Silver Spring. Headlined by rap legends Method Man and Redman, the show was a an ode to 90's hip hop as well as good weed.
The show opened with up and coming rappers Wais P, Trademark the Skydiver, Mick Jenkins and Berner each doing a short set. All of them had a song or two that the crowd was feeling and all expressed their love for marijuana. Feeding off the unusually large early crowd, the energy was high and the performers were giving it everything.
B Real of Cypress Hill took things to another level as he and his Dj put on a great set that featured the classics as well as new material. Holding down the stage solo seemed natural for him as interacted with the crowd and controlled the room. B Real even lit up a blunt on stage and passed it to the crowd. Berner came out during B Real's set and the two performed a couple of songs off their Prohibition mixtape.
After a short delay, Method Man and Redman hit the stage and got right to partying. Classic set that showed off lyricism, energy, crowd participation and even dance moves. The chemistry between the two was incredible. In classic hip hop fashion they even let the Djs get some shine and do some quick mixing during the set. The Wu-Tang Clan members did a tribute to fallen member ODB and made sure the crowd paid respects. Great show by a legendary duo who announced that they're working a new album Blackout 3.
Good music and good smells, The Smokers Club knows how to put on a show. The mix of artist was reflected in the crowd as well. A party from start to finish, be sure to check out the show when they hit your city.
