LIVE: Run The Jewels X Jeremih at Fade X Vitaminwater's #Uncapped
Fader and Vitaminwater recently had another installment of their #uncapped series where they throw live concerts with quality live acts. This time they between hardcore hip-hop classicalists Run the Jewels and R&B lothario Jeremih.
First up was the rap duo (and supergroup) Run the Jewels. If you did the math between members El-P and Killer Mike there was three decades of hip-hop on stage. You couldn’t tell by their performance; personally it was the most energetic rap show I have seen in years outside of Odd Future. They bounced across the stage all throughout the set while cracking jokes at the crowd and bonding with the enthusiastic group of super-fans in the front. It made you wish you could be on stage with them bouncing along too. In the end Killer Mike hopped off the stage and finished their set in the crowd surrounded by the whole reason they’ve survived the rap game so long, the fans.
Jeremih had some early technical difficulties but weathered the storm and ended up dropping a pretty great set. He brought out Estelle to perform their duet, “Be In Love” and let her have the stage to do her hit American boy. Former Cam’ron BFF Vado came out and they did their collaboration, “My Bae”. The biggest guest star by crowd response was Fabolous who was right at home in front of the New York crowd. While his set was guest heavy Jeremih was not to be outdone. He performed a pitch perfect first verse of his ode to the therapeutic values of “Birthday Sex” solo while playing keys, performed tracks from his Shlohmo produced EP and critically acclaimed mixtape Late Nights. He closed out with a very high octane version of his latest single, “Don’t tell ‘Em”; shimmying dancers appeared out of nowhere and the band stepped it up more than a few decibels.
