LIVE: Big Boi Listening Party, Converse Rubber Tracks, Brooklyn
Photos by Reginald Duvivier
Tuesday night, Big Boi touched down in Brooklyn to promote his latest solo effort, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. As a part of his New York press tour (which included a testy Village Voice interview), the Atlanta MC gave a select audience at Converse's Rubber Tracks studio a glimpse of the project, with a live performance and played tracks from select cuts from the album. Of course, it's always great to see a legend at work.

The album retains the sonic DNA from his last two solo efforts--Speakerboxx and the underrated Sir Lucious Left Foot..--but finds Mr. Patton being a bit more experimental. Sure, the expected hip-hop collaborators are present--Big Krit, ASAP Rocky, etc--but the album sees him reaching out and working with such acts as Phantogram and Little Dragon on some tracks. It's a slight, but noticeable change from his prior work.
To be honest, any Big Boi solo work, will be a disappointment to those waiting for a full fledged Outkast reunion. We'll withhold more judgement about the album when it drops on December 11th, however.
