LIVE: Common Rocks Stones Throw Superfest in LA
This past Saturday, Common rocked the stage at Stones Throw Superfest in Los Angeles' Sycamore Grove Park, fresh off the release of his new album, Black America Again. The Superfest, a celebration of the legendary label's 20 year anniversary curated in collaboration with Red Bull for their 30 Days in LA series, also featured Dam Funk, Gabriel Garzón-Montano, Iman Omari, Peanut Butter Wolf, J. Rocc, MNDSGN, Homeboy Sandman, and many others. Food and merch vendors lined the outer limits of the festival, while family and friends chilled out on blankets for a sunny day in the park filled with amazing music. It wasn't just a family affair out in the crowd, but on-stage as well; with LA songstress/songwriter Nia Andrews' (credits include Solange, Shafiq Husayn, Mark de Clive-Lowe) 9 year old son getting the chance to rock on the drums during Common's set and Common bringing Karriem Riggins out to rap J. Dilla's verse from "Thelonious."
If you missed out on the celebration, don't worry. Stones Throw is keeping it going with the release of this podcast by Peanut Butter Wolf that features a few previously unreleased tracks from Madlib, J Dilla, and more.
