As you read in Marcus' earlier post, Ms. Laura Izibor is a star in the making. We first profiled her way back in 2007 when she was still fresh faced 19 year-old making waves as the only R&B face in her home country of Ireland. Flash forward 2 years--her track "From My Heart to Yours" is breaking on urban contemporary radio and she packed the Millenium Stage of the Kennedy Center for a raucous show in support of her release, Let the Truth Be Told, which was released the same day.
In her short set, she covered nearly all over her songs from her debut. While the music might not be groundbreaking in a "we've heard it all before sense," Ms. Izibor has a wonderful stage precence and an amazing smile that would warm over even the coldest skeptic.
The crowd was as diverse as ever. In addition to the R&B set, Ms. Izibor had everyone from hard core music lovers, to tourists, to even the occaisnal Irish couple singing her praises by the time she got around to her hit single "From My Heart to Yours." She even had the ladies in the audience testifying like it was church during the intro of the song, "The Worst Is Over," written for a friend who is in a terrible relaitonsip with a crummy man (who Ms. Izibor notes, is still in the relationship . SMH).
All in all, DC got an amazing preview of a brilliant artist who has the staying power to be around for a long time. Big ups to the Kennedy Center for putting on yet another amazing Millenium Stage performance. (If you didn't know, Millenium Stage is FREE and happens every day around 6:00 PM)
