Laura Izibor – From My Heart to Yours (streaming)
Is it me, or has the US been severely lacking in the soul game lately? Yeah, we invented the genre, and we were riding high during the whole Neo Soul thing, but in the past couple of years, Europe has been kicking our a$$ like we were the 2002 Olympic Basketball team.
The next artist on the roster: Laura Izibor, the Irish soul singer that’s getting major buzz in her native country of Ireland, winning the 2006 Irish Meteor Awards, sharing the stage with James Brown, Angie Stone, and The Roots, and signing a major record deal with Atlantic Records for a US release. As you know, I’m a sucker for soul voices, and this girl’s voice is far beyond her years. The lady is only 19 people! Yes, I know I’ve heard this before about other artists, but its a skill to have such a mature voice at such a young age. (Yeah, I know that sentence makes me sound old.)
Obvious comparisons are to Alecia Keys and Leela James. I would also thrown in a comparison to Joy Denelane and Lauryn Hill as well. Her album, Let The Truth Be Told was recorded in NYC, Dublin, Atlanta, and Philly, and should be released sometime this year.
