SCREEN: FIFTY SHADES OF FIRST
A world phenomenon came to life at the Ziegfeld Theater on February 6th as 1000 people got to see the first screening of Fifty Shades of Grey. The crowd was made up of dedicated fans that came to the 7 AM screening and to watch the two leads on NBC's Today Show. The leads, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, director Sam Taylor-Johnson and author E.L. James made an appearance for fans before the screening and for the Today Show, in which they spoke on their interest in making the film and the effect the film has had on their personal lives.
Fans were treated with a worthwhile screening experience as fancy finger foods, champagne, models in grey suits, and theatrical posters were all present at the event. The Ziegfeld Theater in Midtown Manhattan, which holds almost 1200 seats, was already jam packed at 5AM. Fans dressed as Anastasia and wore fan made shirts and grey clothing, showcasing their fandom for the adult novel. The movie made quite an impression on the crowd with its erotic scenes and the ending left fans gasping for more and grabbing more soda from the counter. The film is based on the first novel of the trilogy where a timid woman encounters a sexually dangerous, wealthy man. Their intimate relationship leans towards a way more kinky sexual side than the norm. The Ziegfeld hosted two more shows on February the 6th, a screening at 11am and then at 7pm. The film will return to the theater on February 12th at an 8pm showing then continue to run for the rest of the month. The segment from the Today's Show can be viewed here.
