Yeek's New Spin On South Florida's Soundcloud Era

I’ve been fascinated with this new scene of Florida dudes that have emerged out of Soundcloud Rap era. But instead of picking up beat machines, these dudes are picking up guitars. The result is a mix of Soundcloud nihilism with more indie rock sounds. Similar to Lil Peep but with less rap influence. Artists such as Yuno, Yeek, and Dominick Fike, are a part of an emerging subgenre that's slowly bubbling up on the underground.

Yeek is the latest of this trio. I just listened to his latest EP, entitled IDK WHERE and it's a fantastic blend of sounds. You clearly can hear the hip-hop influence in the production, however the resulting sounds lean heavy towards the indie-rock side of the spectrum. With more and more "pure" hip-hop artists experimenting with rock sounds (Uzi Vert, Lil Naz X, etc), its interesting to see this offshoot emerge. The future of the genre continues to get interesting.
