Tink -"Don't Tell Nobody"
With all eyes on Chicago, and “Chiraq” references aplenty, much of what everyone thinks of, when summing up the fast-rising rappers from the Windy City, is drill music. This, of course, leaves out Tink, the bewildering hybrid of Chicago’s gristle and gumption. Her versatility as the female rapper that easily keeps up with Lil’ Durk on “Dat Ain’t Me,” and the singer who can effortlessly harmonize alongside alt-R&B artists like Kelela is impressive. So much so, that Tink often blurs the lines between the two genres, by either creating melodious jingles with her fast paced rhymes, or when singing at such a quick tempo, her clever play on words begin to sound like raps anyway. Although barely 21 years old, Tink reprises a formula that gave both Da Brat and Destiny’s Child their signature styles, except in this case, Tink is what you would get if Beyonce spit a hot 16. No doubt, all eyes are on Chicago -but I would pay close attention to Tink.
