NEW MUSIC: Mala - Mala in Cuba

“Mala in Cuba” is a triumphant album of epic proportions - an innovative space where urban bass culture meets the spiritual and historical narrative of Cuban music, where 'South London meets Havana'. The big Don of Dubstep has put together a masterpiece that shows how his production skills and approach to music are in a different class altogether.

Mala has been at the forefront of the dubstep scene since the early 2000’s. He is one half of Digital Mystikz and co-founder of the DMZ record label and club night, and has his own imprint, Deep Mehdi Musik.

At Gilles Peterson’s invitation, Mala travelled to Cuba with the Brownswood Recordings boss in May 2011 and recorded some of Cuba’s most talented musicians, including pianist Roberto Fonseca, percussionist Changuito and singer Danay Suarez. Mala returned to London with a box of treasures and pieced together an elegant, musically respectful and mesmerising rhythmic feast that will echo through the ages.
