When the news broke that Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill was slated to hit Broadway as a musical adaptation of the era defining classic LP, an epiphany set in that the feminist emissary, and 90’s renegade may have officially traded in her alt-punk notoriety for the pomp of Broadway fame. Pill, debuting in the US in 1995, is Morissette’s most celebrated release to date and voiced an unapologetic answer to the question of whether a shabby-haired Canadian woman could rock as hard as any of her counterparts.

So what does the angst of young adulthood sound like to the tune of a Broadway musical? Working with the same stage producers responsible for bringing Green Day’s American Idiot to Broadway, Vivek J. Tiwary and Arvind Ethan David, Pill will have much to live up to, as the album will forever be an anthemic expletive to every bad break up and unrequited crush. True enough, Morissette fans are preparing to relive the epic momentum of “You Oughta Know” and “Ironic,” but under the bright lights of Broadway, it is even more apparent that the audiences that have watched Morissette’s growth from rebellious femme fatale to a theater sophisticate are all grown up too –a jagged little pill, indeed.
