MUSIC: Alessia Cara Is Here!

When I first heard "Here"by Alessia Cara, I had to know who she was and began my quest to track down the voice that caught my immediate attention. This curly haired princess has a unique sound that flows over hip hop laced tracks on her debut release as effortlessly as Rakim grabs a microphone.  Canadian born and raised, Alessia Caracciolo, was born talented and started as a poet and in theater as a child. She gained the attention of Def Jam executives from launching her youtube channel at age 16 and created an internet buzz (indie artists take note that dreams can come true). Def Jam signed Alessia Cara and released her five song EP, "Four Pink Walls" which the label and Cara strategically created by showcasing how she can sing a variety of music.  This short album is so crafty and catchy that you find yourself slowly becoming wrapped up and cocooned in her lyrics, beats and songs going back to listen two and three times; it gives you hip hop, swing music and pop all in one person. This is definitely something I am sure the record label execs saw and had to have!
This uniquely styled vocalist is the face of an evergrowing generation who is less consumed with material things and more into being creative outlaws (sorry, I hate the term hipster).  At the tender age of 18, she is quenching the thirst that music fans have missed since Esthero's first album, "Breathe from Another". The song "Outlaws" has a 50"s inspired track where she sings about being an outlaw with her lover and "Here" is blazing air waves across the United States as an ode to how she prefers to be at home by herself or with other musicians vibing and making music. In the song, she would like to stay in the cut, with her hat laying low, under clouds of marijuana and continuously asking herself "What am I doing in Here". This little self proclaimed "social anarchist" is singing her soul out on this track which are her thoughts being sung out loud over a very classic hip hop beat, not a feat that most female vocalists can achieve.
Alessia's "Here" will be here for a while so get used to this Canadian vocalist. I am sure a Drake collabo is coming soon and frankly, I am loving the Canadian invasion on mainstream music. Hey, at the end of the day, its all North America....move away from states and take it to continents.  Cara's vintage sound and mature lyrics will permeate international radio airwaves and hit the underground heads simultaneously.  Get ready to fall in love, Music Love-hers.
