LIVE: Beach Fossils, Saba, and Nyck @ Knight at House Of Vans

House of Vans continues their party series into the summer with another great show. While free summertime shows are a dime a dozen in New York, there’s something about the space, the acts, and the general vibe of the show that makes it one of the best places to be in NYC when they throw a shindig.

Nyck @ Knight is the creatively named project from Pro-Era members Kirk Knight and Nyck Caution. While they both already had rising solo careers from the new tracks they performed (they promised the album was basically done) this project seems to have a decisively more amped up and fun slant compared to their solo work. Pro-Era overlord Joey Bada$$ came out and preformed a track before bringing out the entire Pro-Era clan (plus The Underachivers) to mob around enthusiastically on stage driving the home town crowd nuts.

As a result, Saba had his work cut out for him. A solid performer the Chicago had to work uphill to bring the crowd back from the Brooklyn on Brooklyn love of the previous act and he rose to the occasion. Consistently repping his city (along with his hypeman/DJ Dam Dam in chitown regalia) he bounced, sauntered on stage and gave the crowd their all.
Headliners Beach Fossils are as laid back on stage as they are on their records. Don’t let their demeanor fool you, they are a rock band through and through and filled the cavernous House of Vans with loud fun rock music.
