In Case You Missed It: The Rolling Stones - Miss You (Dr. Dre Remix)

For me there's nothing really wrong with a little rap in my rock or vice versa. When done correctly that is. Many rock artists have successfully dabbled in rap (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus and Rage Against the Machine) while many rappers have stepped outside their comfort zone of hip hop and fused rock into their mix (Mos Def, Public Enemy and of course Run-DMC). But there are some songs that have sneaked past fans of the rap/rock cross-genre; one being the Dr. Dre remix to "Miss You" performed by the Rolling Stones.

Originally released in the awesome year of 1978  "Miss You" was conceived as a disco song due to its funky guitar and bass that immediately had people rushing to the dance-floor. It was primarily written by Mick Jagger and was the Rolling Stones 8th number one hit in the US. For most Rolling Stones heads it's considered a top song and it has been covered by artists like Justin Timberlake, Musiq Soulchild and The Black Eyed Peas.

In 2002 producer Dr Dre decided to give ‘Miss You” his own hip hop update for the Austin Powers: Goldmember soundtrack. And although I do prefer the original version by the Stones, I am not mad at Dre’s attempt to put some Cali funk to this rock classic. He for the most part kept everything intact and only added a harder bass line, you know the one you would normally hear in a Dre song -  but when it's paired alongside Mick’s vocals it becomes a great combination of old and new. It received the thumbs up from Mick, Keith and the rest of the RS crew and should definitely be peeped if you somehow missed it. Check out both versions below.
