FOOD: OddFellows Ice Cream [NYC & BK]

There are few things more satisfying than a taking a stroll to your neighborhood ice cream shop on a warm summer evening and treating yourself.  While it's not quite summer, this past weekend certainly felt like it.  And the only proper way to celebrate is with ice cream.
Ice cream is, I'd say, pretty hard to mess up, but also sort of tough to be really impressive.  The big contenders in the city are Big Gay Ice Cream if you're into soft serve (which I am!) and Morganstern's on the Lower East Side.  But Sunday night I decided to give OddFellows a try.
By all standards, there's nothing incredibly appealing or intriguing about OddFellows from the outside.  It's a regular looking, tiny New York ice cream shop.  But on closer inspection--there is certainly something odd going on.  And the only thing that can really make ice cream odd, besides toppings, is the flavor itself.
There's no plain chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla here (although there are versions sometimes).  Instead, you will find Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Miso Cherry, Burnt Caramel, and Grapefruit Jalapeno Sorbet.  Of course I chose the wildest flavors to demonstrate, but this is ice cream for the adventurous!  I ended up having coconut with milk chocolate (pictured above) that was so delicious I'm already thinking about when I can go back.  Although, the thing is, you have to check back daily to see the flavors offered.  Next time coconut milk chocolate is available, I will certainly get it, but not before trying something a little more...out there.
