Fresh off of a remarkable indie music success story, Neon Indian are slowly but surely staking their territory among the reigning kings (and queens) of lo-fi chillwave. We first heard band leader and primary composer Alan Palomo’s trippy, dream-like beats when their debut EP, Psych Chasms, was released to much critical acclaim last year. The record, whose breakout singles “Deadbeat Summer” and “Should Have Taken Acid With You” were truly anthemic, earned the group multiple spots on Pitchfork’s notoriously picky Best-Of-Year lists, as well as top billing on a number of international tours and music festivals.

But as if the original tracks weren’t enough, Neon Indian are back with a re-issue of Psychic Chasms and the release of Mind Ctrl: Psychic Chasms Possessed, which features bonus tracks and remixes by lo-fi heavy hitters like Toro Y Moi, Bibio, and YACHT. The record was digitally released on the FADER label a couple of weeks ago, and will be out on CD and vinyl on September 28. Static Tongues, Palomo’s own imprint, will release Psychic Chasms in the UK on September 20.

Luckily for us, Mind Ctrl remains true to Neon Indian’s signature hazy bleeps and bloops, just with the welcome addition of some of our other favorite musicians.  A slow, soft remix of “Ephemeral Artery” by Darby Cicci (of Brooklyn-based the Antlers) is already on repeat. And French DJ/producer Anoraak’s redux of “Psychic Chasms” fills the track with melodious synths and more reverb than we knew was possible.
