I really didn’t make that title up – that’s what some are calling 20 year old Belgium singer, Selah Sue. I stumbled across her on Youtube recently and her voice immediately caught my ear. Pint sized and multi talented (she sings, writes, plays the guitar and raps) Selah is one of many European female vocalist on the rise and looking to blow in 2010.

Obviously heavily influenced by soul and reggae with songs like ‘Fyah Fyah’ and ‘Raggamuffin' Selah has been called a rapper who spits like a Jamican and I'm sure there will be many who disagree with this statement. Personally, I think that’s what music is all about -being inspired - and it's one of the reasons I'm so crazy about it. So the fact that the word rapper is being thrown doesn't really bother me all that much although however, the recent New York Times article 'pin-pointing' the rise of white female rap left me scratching my head (and not because I have something against white girls who rap -I thought Byata from Miss Rap Supreme was pretty ill) because they used Kesha (with a $ sign) as sort of the primary example – and that I just don’t get.

ANYWAY, so with one EP already under her belt I'm hoping Selah will be seen just as a young girl with a dope voice, inspired by many with potential to grow in this industry. And that’s why I think you should peep and see if you like her for yourself.
