Breakfast with Florence Amerley Adu (Designer)
Back fresh from Ghana is Florence Adu a friend, designer and inspiration for so many reasons. So we met up at her Brooklyn home and after a conference call and figuring out where to go.
We decided to take a walk to The Outpost (great blackbean soup..damn!) a coffeshop around the block from her home to discuss life, her recent visit home and her major release of her Girls dress line. Do what we do here at Breakfast with grab your favorite vice and enjoi(no I like to spell it like this..) the photo interview...
gbekembe story
Gbekembe [pronounced bek-em-bee] is adapted from the word Gbekebii [pronounced bek-eh-bee] which means “children” in the Ga language. Ga is spoken in southeastern Ghana, in and around the capital Accra, where Gbekembe dresses are made. Our dresses are hand sewn by experienced seamstresses – entrepreneurial women – that we partner with to produce each line.
She let me check out some of the samples showing below before heading out to her spot to handle more business..Inspired!
You can found out more about Florence and her line at the links listed above...
