While we may be in the beginning of August, there is still nothing better than a grilled cheese done right. My favorite of all time (and that’s saying a lot!) has got to be a Murray’s Melt from Murray’s Cheese on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village. There’s something about the secret blend of four cheeses that they use and the thick Texas toast style bread that just all adds up. And for $3.99 plus tax you really can’t beat that! But for those of you who are a little more adventurous, try the tuna melt or add prosciutto or bacon to change things up.
The staff at Murray’s couldn’t be nicer or more knowledgeable, which makes going in for a visit truly enjoyable. And trust me, the melts aren’t the only thing they are capable of - the meats, pasta, and bread excellent as well. And now that they carry beer - they’re not missing anything. The only downside: no seating. But I recommend taking a walk to Father Demo Square to people watch and enjoy your melt. FYI: the melts grill closes at 6pm.
