FOOD: Mikie Squared [Hoboken, NJ]

In my mental catalog I have a restaurant for just about every occasion and craving--and a very important group within that catalog are my "go-to" restaurants. This place can be counted on for just about anything, including but not limited to: great drinks, weekend brunch, and a sufficient amount of menu items to keep me satisfied for the long haul. This is where Mikie Squared of Hoboken comes in.

Successfully fulfilling all my "go-to" restaurant criteria and beyond, Mikie Squared is the kind of place that delivers every, single, time. Located on Washington Street and somewhat buried within a wide selection of restaurants, it might be hard to differentiate this spot from the next--so allow me do it for you. Mikie Squared never fails to impress with fresh ingredients and unique, delicious combinations.

Mikie Squared is open for lunch and dinner every night of the week as well as brunch on weekends. On weekdays they attempt to push your workday along by bringing you their "liquid lunches" where you can drink $3 dollar pints of Coors Light or Yuengling. Helping you get to Friday even faster are other fun weeknight events including All Night Happy Hour Mondays, Trivia Tuesdays, Martini Mania Wednesdays and Thursdays, and Ladies' Happy Hour Fridays. And if brunch from 10am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday isn't enough to lure you back to the bar within 12 hours of leaving, then you should know about Sangria Sundays. $10 dollar pitchers. 'Nuff said.

>On the first sunny and warm Spring Saturday I had Mikie Squared on the brain because they open up a nice little outdoor seating area. It's a wonderful spot to sit in the shade on a warm day and enjoy a Manmosa (champagne, Blue Moon, vodka, and orange juice) or a classic Bloody Mary. Paired with brunch or one of their awesome regular menu items and you have yourself a nice little Saturday (that might require a nice little Saturday afternoon nap--those Manmosas sneak up on you). They currently offer seasonal options on top of their normal selection that are fitting to the budding weather and are deliciously creative.

It's only right for a "go-to" restaurant to have a "go-to" menu item and mine is Alyssa's Everyday Chicken Wrap: grilled chicken, avocado, monterey jack cheddar cheese, romaine, salsa, and chipotle mayo. Lightly grilled to warm it all the way through, every ingredient always tastes incredibly fresh. This is usually the case with all their chicken wraps, as the meat has great quality and never gives the impression that it was frozen. In Alyssa's wrap the avocado is creamy and the romaine is crisp, and it is highly satisfying.

An excellent choice from their current seasonal menu is AJ's Sweet and Spicy Chicken Sandwich--cajun grilled chicken, bacon, mushrooms, monterey jack cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a side of honey mustard. Served on a fluffy seeded bun requiring two hands, this super-sized sandwich will stuff you silly. While you have the choice of regular fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, or a side salad to accompany your sandwich or wrap, I would opt for sweet potato fries any day of the week--they have just enough crisp and never feel greasy.
