Lately all I seem to be hearing is people talking about Jack's Wife Freda. I don't know why the sudden (is it really sudden, or just me?) popularity--it's not that new. But the other day I was in SoHo and instead of going to Grey Dog, my personal fav, I thought I should keep going and try something new, and lo and behold, I found myself standing in front of Jack's Wife Freda. It was about 4pm on a Friday afternoon so I wasn't too concerned about it being that busy.
Right away I liked it. It's the perfect place to catch up with friends--the atmosphere was cozy and friendly and I got myself a table along the banquet. It's super small so I can imagine it being pretty packed during busy hours, but I had a lovely time on my own this particular Friday.
I hadn't eaten that day yet so I was pretty hungry and had taken a peek at the menu beforehand, when I first heard about it so I knew I wanted to try the waffle. Now, this wasn't an ordinary waffle. It's called the Rosewater Waffle with lebanese yogurt, strawberries, and honey syrup. And the second you take a bite, you immediately get a taste of rose--which sounds so weird but it was so good! It was light and not super sweet--the yogurt was a great addition and normally I stick to butter on pancakes and waffles, but I didn't even miss it here. And the honey syrup was delicious as well. I was very impressed by this waffle and had a great time on my own here. To make things even better, I ordered a Pimm's Cup, which is one of my favorite cocktails.
Overall, I had a great meal here and will certainly be back. I'm not sure how I feel about it as a dinner spot, maybe I'll give it a try sometime--I hear their burger is supposed to be good--but for breakfast/lunch/brunch, it was spot on.
