FOOD: Cocina Economica -- Upper West Side
In a seemingly another edition of places to eat on the Upper West Side--let's talk about Cocina Economica. I've passed this place hundreds of times, heard a lot of good things about it, but finally went for the first time the other day.
Located on Amsterdam (between 81st and 82nd), Cocina Economica inhabits one of those typical Upper West Side narrow spaces--but it totally works. There is a decently cozy bar, which is where we sat to eat, and a few small tables in the front or back. This isn't a place to go with a large group, but if you are looking for some good Mexican, this place hit the spot.
I decided to try the grilled calamari (pictured above) and I was really pleased with it. The dish was a little spicy, but I'm more sensitive to spice than most though so I think the majority of people would like it! If I were more hungry, I definitely would have gotten a quesadilla, which is what my friend had. It was honestly one of the best I've had:
The drink selection was decent as well--we were watching the bartender make sangria--and they have a variety of wine and tequila. Overall, I would definitely come back--and maybe get the calamari and a quesadilla, but I can see this being a really nice to place to come this Fall/Winter!
