FOOD: Christmas in April -- Rolf's [NYC]
Some say Rolf's is a tourist trap--somewhere you only go during the holidays for overpriced cocktails. But I will say it was pretty cool to get a taste of the holidays in the middle of April.
I will admit that I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to German food. I love a good beer garden in the summer, but I rarely choose German when looking for a night out. That being said, I was really excited to have wiener schnitzel since it's been quite some time since I have.
We started out with the potato pancakes that were much more filling than I anticipated--but were very good. Especially with sour cream. They were a bit heavy, but very good!
The wiener schnitzel was everything I wanted it to be--super thin and nicely breaded. This definitely could have been shared but it will make a nice lunch for the next day.
Overall the atmosphere was great for a night out with the girls. The holiday decorations were amazing even in the spring. The restaurant itself was much smaller than I thought it would be, but it's certainly worth going--at least in the off season. I can't imagine what that place must be like during the holidays, but for a Sunday night dinner it was lovely.
