FOOD: Brunch at Le Barricou [NYC]
Grand Street in East Williamsburg lays home to many bars, restaurants, and coffee shops offering wide varieties of food options, especially for brunch. One of the best brunch options in the neighborhood is Le Barricou, a French restaurant and bar that brings a little bit of France to Brooklyn.
The restaurant’s cozy atmosphere evokes the quaint style of French brasseries, with wood tables set for family style dining and Parisian inspired artwork lining the walls. Each table sits beneath a chalkboard featuring the cheeses of the day, and the drinks are served in mason jars which brings out the farmhouse feeling even more.
The main dining room is lined with a full bar that offers unique cocktails including their signature winter drink, the “Bourbon Milk Punch” - and a whole section of absinthe liquors that are featured on their menu. Brunch cocktails include bellinis and mimosas, kir royale, and a shrimp cocktail Bloody Mary that was a special when I was there.
The brunch menu offers French breakfast favorites including Croque Madame made with French country bread and melted gruyere, Eggs Florentine and Eggs Benedict featuring poached eggs with a creamy, house made hollandaise sauce, and Eggs Norwegian with cured salmon. The specials, which change weekly, included a Lobster Frittata topped with salmon roe, and a salmon hash that was sold out by the time I made it there due to its high popularity.
Outside of their egg-based dishes, Le Barricou offers French toast made with thick slices of caramelized country bread topped with fresh fruit, duck confit hash, onion gratinee, and a black angus beef burger. Sides include fresh cut pommes frites and tasty home fries that come with most egg dishes.
With a welcoming atmosphere, interesting cocktails and delicious French comfort food, Le Barricou makes France not so far away. Whether you head there for brunch, dinner or a late night bite, the restaurant brings French cuisine to Brooklyn one dish at a time.
