FOOD: Animals [NYC]
Hidden gems are the best, aren't they? I admittedly tried to find Animals for a bit longer than was probably necessary over on Avenue C because what I didn't realize is that Animals shares the same space as The Wayland. Who knew?!
As you can imagine, Animals is not a vegetarian spot. It's basically a sandwich shop on the left side of The Wayland specializing in meaty sandwiches. And it's just as good as it sounds.
There are a couple of 2-top tables to sit at inside, along with the second half of the bar. Animals/The Wayland is Animals from 11am-5pm and then becomes The Wayland. I think this idea is pretty awesome since you wouldn't think to go to The Wayland during the day.
I had the Mortadella sandwich (pictured above) which I go to go. It's basically fried mortadella (sausage), fromage fort (not sure what that is but it's kind of like a blue cheese), peppadew peppers, and rosemary mayo. I added a rather large side of chips for $1 and I pleasantly found a small container of animal crackers there as well. Cute touch.
