On Tuesday, May 5 I was lucky enough to attend the Village Voice's 4th annual Choice Streets Food Truck Event.  I love food trucks--and I feel fairly confident in saying that most New Yorkers do as well.  I love watching shows about food trucks on the Food Network and outside of my office is some of the best in the city.  So of course I jumped at the chance to check out many trucks I haven't gotten to try yet!
First of all, the Intrepid was a very cool venue.  While it was kind of annoying to get to (crossing midtown during rush hour is the worst!) it was a really nice space.  The weather was perfect so that also helped a little, but being on the water was great.  Bonus--we got access to go into the museum which I had never been before.

The event was from 8-11 but we were able to get in ahead at 7:30.  VIP passes were for a 7pm start time and this was actually pretty crucial.  There were so many people in there by 8 the lines were getting pretty outrageous.  I would definitely recommend getting VIP for this.  Also, it's a lot of food and I can't wait that long to eat dinner!
Besides the lines being a bit long, this event was great.  The portions were decently sized so that you didn't get too hungry on the first couple of stops but big enough to get a real sense of what they were all about.  Also, it was all you can drink and not just little samples here and there, but like full sized beers all over the place.  I almost wish this had rained out because then it would have been on a Friday instead of a Tuesday!  But you get the idea...
One of my favorite trucks was Snowday.  I had never heard of them before (I had heard of most if not been there before) but this was totally new to me.  They were offering a grilled cheese with maple syrup over the top!  Sounds weird but it worked and I definitely wanted more.  Other classics included Gorilla Cheese, Big D's Grub, Domo Taco, and Korilla BBQ.
All in all, this was a great event!  But if the lines were shorter that would be awesome :)
