Food + Drink
DRINK: Evelyn [NYC]
Over the weekend, I went to a friend's 30th birthday at Evelyn in Alphabet City. I had heard of this bar before, but had never actually been. Overall, I thought it was a great space but if I were to go back I think it would be with a smaller group or on a date.
My friend had reserved the back room space which was actually quite sizable but because there were so many people back there, it was incredibly hot. I'm really glad I didn't bring a jacket with me--but will say that once the crowd dispersed it was much more enjoyable. I just think we all would have appreciated open windows that night.
The cocktails were quite good. The drink of the evening seemed to be an Old Fashioned, which happens to be one of my favorites. And by the way everyone was throwing them back, it seemed like they were enjoying them as well.
I myself stuck to Tiger beer, only because it was the only beer on the list that I recognized and was also not an IPA (I really hate IPA). Tiger beer is pretty good but can't say it's my favorite. However, $7 for a 16 oz can doesn't hurt.
The ambiance was really cool--it was dark and felt like a grown up bar, perfect for a 30th birthday. But there was a DJ in the back and while the music was a little too eclectic for my taste, you're not going to a cocktail bar for the music anyway, right?
I had a really good time here and will definitely keep it in mind for the next time I'm out and about in Alphabet City.
