BITE OF THE MOMENT: The Farm on Adderley Turned Me On To Restaurant Oatmeal

This post is more than just a Bite of the Moment - it's a revelation. My whole life, the vast majority of my oatmeal memories have consisted of popping a paper cup full of Instant Quaker maple and brown sugar oats and a little water into the microwave before class back in college, when my diet consisted largely of Easy Mac and Hot Pockets.
I choose my meals out by their level of difficulty to make - I pretty much never order pasta, for example, because I'm not trying to pay for something that involves little more than boiling a pot of water. Boring! So when the opportunity to split a bowl of oatmeal at Farm on Adderley was presented to me, I was a little hesitant for us to spend $7 on an easily microwaveable meal.
Steel cut oats, cinnamon, apple, and brown sugar don't sound like anything particularly mind-blowing for oatmeal, a bowl that's already pretty lackluster. Wrong. I would much rather wake up to this meal than to the majority of the guys I've slept with - this dish had more flavor and creaminess than I thought was possible in a bowl of oatmeal, and even beat out the polenta and hash dishes I had initially been enticed by. If Ditmas Park wasn't so far away, you'd better believe I'd be there every morning asking for more.
I'm now a believer in restaurant oatmeal - thanks for turning me on, Farm on Adderley. I promise I'll stick around longer in the morning next time I'm over.
