BITE OF THE MOMENT: Anything [More, Like, Everything] from Dominique Ansel Kitchen
Yes, I'm one of THOSE girls - one of the ones that wake up at 7:30 am to rush over to the two day old Dominique Ansel Kitchen just in time for the doors to open [by Dominique himself, of course]. It's never too early for dessert, so my partner in crime picked up a brown sugar DKA and a bowl of cold pear yogurt with hot granola [made to order, as are most of the items on the menu] and paired them with a 1:1 lemon yuzu butter tart [that's basically straight up butter, lemon, and yuzu emulsified in a milkshake maker] and a giant bowl of the lightest, fluffiest bowl of chocolate mousse ever created. One table over, this guy cut into his squid ink brioche topped with mushroom bechamel, garlic mashed potatoes, and two confit egg yolks, and as he cut the yolk and we watched it drip down the brioche my friend and I actually held each other in awe.
Sure, Cronuts were [still are?] a craze, but these treats have already proven to us that Dominique Ansel is a chef that's here to constantly amaze us with whatever he decides to whip up. If anyone needs a Dominique [or Dom as my mother likes to call him - they're BFFs] dessert buddy, you know where to find me.
