FOOD: Where To Donate Food, Find Food, and Support Food In NYC After Hurricane Sandy
[Photo from Eater NY]
In the aftermath of Sandy, everyone at here at Couch Sessions hopes that all our East Coast readers and their family and friends are doing well. Recovery is going to take a while, but we're all in this together: below, here are some ways that you can stay well fed in NYC, and ensure that others are, too.
Red Hook Initiative has plenty of volunteers but needs food and other supplies - find out where to donate here.
The Hester Street Collaborative - Elderly and disabled residents of the LES + Chinatown are not only stuck in their apartments, but are in great need of food, water, batteries, and the like - check out their Facebook to see where you can help.
Citymeals needs more volunteers to help deliver food - go to their website if you are interested in helping out.
Food Trucks are giving away free meals in Brooklyn and Manhattan!
Here's a list from Eater on restaurants open in NYC - please support them!
Dispology has a great Post-Sandy Drinking Guide you should all check out - I'm pretty sure we could all use a drink right now.
Don't be silly when you're ordering delivery. Like, make sure the place you're ordering from isn't flooded. Take a tip or two from Seamless if you're ordering in!
And, a great article from Grub Street NY on how you can help Sandy-damaged restaurants in NYC.
Let us know in the comments if your business or organization needs help!
Of course, there are many, many other establishments that will need your support, especially when Lower Manhattan and the rest of Sandy-damaged NYC starts to get up and running - make sure you help out your favorite downtown eateries when they're back, and treat yourself to a nice dinner out while you're at it.
Sending so much love to our friends in the food industry (not to mention, everyone else affected) - we are all here for you!
