Soul of Brooklyn Block Parties continue in Brooklyn on* Saturday, May 4, 2013*. This month’s Block Party features an evening concert in Fulton Park headlined by Ghanaian emcee Blitz the Ambassador, “Afropean” R&B duo Les Nubians, and neo-electric African Diasporic music from DJ Chief Boima. Prior to the live performances, vendors and artists will gather on Lewis Avenue for an afternoon celebrating local business and community, including a live set by DJ Rimarkable, a film screening of *Restless City*,
art-making activities, food, fashion, and more!

Organized by the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA), Soul Of Brooklyn aims to promote black-owned businesses in Brooklyn, while offering arts enthusiasts all that Brooklyn’s African Diaspora has to offer.  "We want to pair artistic events with real tangible resources," said MoCADA's Director of Community Programming, Ryann Holmes. "People don’t often feel a museum is an open or accessible place – it’s great to shut that belief down and still operate as a gallery and hub, but we have
the chance to meet people where they’re at and do that in tandem with the community.”

This month’s event will be held in partnership with DRC ApeParel, Peaches Restaurant, The Pantry, and the Lewis Avenue Flea Market.
