STYLE: Photos from the 2014 DC Tweed Ride

As a bike commuter, I'm largely a spandex-and-yoga pants kind of girl, for a few reasons: comfort, force of habit, not wanting to be a sweaty mess in my work clothes. However, I might start donning a different style after the recent DC Tweed Ride. Hosted by local social group Dandies & Quaintrelles, the annual group ride aimed to inject sophistication into what is generally a decidedly unstylish affair. (Yes, I am pointing emphatically at myself.) And, as you can see, the participants had style in abundance.
Walking into Meridian Hill Park that Sunday was like taking a step back in time: penny-farthings and other bikes from as far back as the 1900s, vintage accordion cameras, many a pageboy cap and cloche hats, and, of course, tons and tons of tweed. (Although seriously, guys, hemlets.) A lesiurely ride to Capitol Hill and back saw our merry band of dapper cyclists greeted with smiles and photos snapped by passersby, a wonderful change of pace from being seen as scofflaws, at best, and "terrorists," at worst. And, all it took was getting gussied up.
