In the midst of the rainy season, New Yorkers take cover in any place they can and for the month of April, all New Yorkers and many more will be taking cover at the Tribeca Film Festival. Returning this year with great films, the Tribeca Film Festival takes off on the night of April 15th and enchants you for the next 11 days. James Franco, Christopher Nolan, Mary J. Blige, Brad Bird, Tina Fey and so much more gather in New York for panels, premieres, and events. Dozens of films will be playing each day for the public and this year is filled with heavy dramas, touching stories, thrilling characters, visuals beauties and outstanding documentaries.
After going through the list many have picked out what should be the best films to view. I myself have broken it down to three films that will be premiering for the first time at Tribeca.
Mojave, the story of a talented suicidal artist played by Garret Hedlund, heads into the Mojave Desert for self-discovery and healing but ends up finding something much darker than his thoughts. Directed by William Monahan and co-starring Oscar Isaac and Dania Ramirez, the film is an interesting outback thriller with strong leads clashing for cinematic entertainment.
Bleeding Heart takes us into more family oriented chaos as Shiva (Zosia Mamet) opens her world of abusive relationships and street habits to her long-lost biological sister’s (Jessica Biel) sedate world. Director Diane Bell has been gaining a lot of recognition for the film on it’s entertaining and powerful reflection on sisterly bonding. Biel and Mamet are said to deliver incredible performances that connect the audience to the opposing sisters.
The zombie genre has reached new creative story telling from writer John Scott III and director Henry Hobson in the film Maggie. A father finds his missing teenager who has been infected by a zombie infection, and caters to her. While the disease progresses, he must learn to control a sinister Maggie or risk losing her. The film is visually stunning, thrilling, and contains strong performances from its two leads, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Abigail Breslin.
All three movies will be premiering and replaying during the festival to give many fans opportunities to catch them and many more. For more information on the festival and where to buy tickets go to the Tribeca Film Festival page.
