Creative hip hop coming out of Sweden is somewhat of a norm these days and here’s another group looking to prove that it may not be just a fad. They go by the name  of S.T.I.C.S and the group is comprised of 4 people with four different backgrounds; Denmark, Sweden, Bosnia and Zanzibar.  

They describe their sound as a blend of hip hop, soul and acoustic and they just recently released their first video for the song “Apocalips’. It’s a pretty cool video and a nice song to peep if you’re searching for something different. Check it.

So yeah, one of my latest missions is to find some new, quality hip hop -since it seems like everybody and they mamma’s are complaining that the genre itself is ’dead’. And yeah, there is a lot of whack-tastic ish floating around these days, but I’m determined to leaf through the whackness and find some hotness that is worth adding to my iPod. And these days that means I may have to ‘travel’ across the world to find such things.

My latest quest has taken me to Stockholm, Sweden where I came across this duo going by the name of Futuretro. They just dropped a single from their upcoming LP called “Magic” which they say will be ‘one foot in new school hip hop and the other in the old school’. I’m digging the beat, the flow and the video - but it’s gonna take a few more tracks to win me over completely  –  but so far so good. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Adam Tensta – Before U Know It

I was checking out Imageyenation today and stumbled upon this dude Adam Tensta. Right off the bat this dude has a slamming single, “Back Before You Know It,” that sounds more like Dirty South bounce than anything, and he raps in English with a UK flow. And the dude is from where? Sweden? I did not see that coming.

In his native country, Tensta is running things. He just received a Swedish Grammy and his singles are receiving massive airplay. He even got a shout out from Perez Hilton. I don’t know much about Swedish hip-hop, but Tensta definitely has the talent to cross over. What do y’all think??
