We always have been down with Rakim here on The Couch. He’s been one of the more prolific performers in the hip-hop game and he’s a down to earth guy to boot. Last week, Rakim and company headlined New York’s Central Park Summerstage with EPMD and Funkmaster Flex. Rain threatened to ruin the evening but everything went off as planned. Check the photos.

No one is more deserved a mention in the legacy and chronicle of hip-hop than Rakim. The Queens MC, has had a storied legacy, from partnering with Eric B during the “golden era” of the genre, to his solo career and his dedicated, almost one on one connection that he still maintains with his fans.

The Joint Chiefs (Yours Truly, Marcus, and Sonya) sat down with Rakim at Stussy DC, a few hours before his concert at The Black Cat in DC. Check it.

On December 12th, National Geographic Live will present a panel discussion titled “Distrant Relatives” which will focus on the extensive ties between Hip-Hop and Reggae. Moderated by MTV VJ Sway, the panel will be led by Nas and Grammy-winning artist Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley. In addition to these two powerful names, the dicussion will also include Kool Herc, Rakim, Daddy U-Roy, King Jammy, Jeff Chang, Moussa Lo and DJ Red Alert.

Following the discussion, there will be an afterparty and performance at Zanzibar nightclub.
