DJ Dredd- Prince “Genius” Mixtape by dj dredd

Yo so check it!! I went to NYC for some much needed R&R, but between catching the Roots at the Highline Ballroom and all the other various dope events I hit up, rest and relaxing were a figment of my imagination.  First, I headed to hear Waajeed of PPP/Bling47 spin at il Bagatto in the LES (make sure Michelle makes your drinks!!) the set was fresh but I still had ants in my pants and needed to dance.

So, I decided to head to the best thing popping in NYC on a Wednesday night, PROPS which is Dj Rich Medina & Akalepse weekly party at Le Poisson Rouge.   The vibe in the room was right, the music on point; Cosmo Baker, photographer Rameen Gasery, Waajeed and Adrian Younge & Loren Oden of the Black Dynamite Sound Orchestra were in attendance and then I was told that PRINCE was about to drop in, low and behold I look to my right and he’s standing right next to me; he looked at me, we gave each other the head-nod (I geeked on the inside) then he strutted through the crowd to the DJ table; after which he greeted the Dj’s, took a once over the crowd and strutted his badness out the building.

I stopped posting “news” articles a while back, but I couldn’t pass this one up (from Nah Right, Miss Info):

“Yo, while me and Q-tip were performing “Vivrant Thing” in Vegas last night….this n—a Prince walked out on the stage, took the guitar from our guitar player and just started rocking! None of us knew he was there until he popped up on the stage….then the n—a vanished like Batman, LOL!

The sound crew said Prince was in the balcony watching the show from the very beginning (The balcony was closed off). Then when “Vivrant Thing” came out, he just came backstage and walked out on stage.

None of us knew what was happening, then when we finished the show he was gone LOL!”

Why does this not surprise me? I’m laughing my ass off at this only because I’m having flashbacks of Chappelle’s Show.

Prince rocked Coachella Festival this past weekend in California with a 2 hour set that included appearances from Sheela E. (dayum!) and Morris Day and the Time (wha?). The dude ripped through all of his hits as well as covering “Creep” from Radiohead in what most people are calling the greatest Coachella performance ever. (I’ll post audio from the performance when I get it.

Prince just needs to go ahead and make a true rock album and show those kids how its done. Fall Out Boy wouldn’t last a second with this dude on stage.

Portishead – Full Coachella Performance

Along with Prince, Portishead was also on the bill and probably as egarly anticipated as the Purple One since this is their only US tour date this year. I’m still out on their new album Third (it can’t compare to their previous two) but they still sound like they put on a dope concert. Still mad at them for skipping the East Coast though.

And let’s not forget Sharon Jones, the hardest working woman in show business, and Couch Sessions Approved Artist Alum, who brought down the show on Friday night.
