Inauguration Concert Update: Jay-Z, Moby, Youth Ball

We all know that Inauguration is going to be crazy insane and off the chain, but two new additions just made that weekend even crazier.

Jay-Z at Warner Theater

First off, Hova himself is playing 1500 seat Warner Theater on Monday, January 19th, fronting a live band, and promising surprise guests. Tickets are going to be at the insane level–$375.00 and $500.00–for lower and upper levels respectively. Of course, this show will be insane, but is it worth two car payments?

Tickets go on sale Friday and can be purchased at the Ticketmaster.

Moby at 9:30 Club

Second, Moby announced a show at 9:30 Club with my homies from Blisspop that we all know is going to be crazy insane. Doors open at midnight and will most likely go on until 4AM. Moby has been out of the game lately, but you know this party is going to be live.

Tickets go on sale this Thursday at 10AM.

Obama’s Youth Ball and Neighborhood Ball

Also, yesterday, announced two new Inaugural Balls for the people, solidifying his already solid pimp status. The first is the Youth Ball, which will be held at the DC Convention Center, aimed specifically for people between the ages of 18-35, with tickets being reduced to a quasi-affordable $75. The other Ball “for the people,” is the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball, which will offer tickets at free or reduced cost, and set aside a portion of tickets for District of Columbia residents. Details about tickets for both Balls will be announced soon.

New Music: Jay-Z feat MC Lyte - BK Anthem

Jay-Z feat MC Lyte - BK Anthem

Wow, yet another Brookyn-lovin’ leak from Hova, this time featuring MC Lyte. A decent track, however, I think it lacks the swagger of Brooklyn Go Hard. What do y’all think?

Video: Jay-Z Feat Santogold - Brooklyn Go Hard

I know that “the streets” might not feel this one, but as someone who is a Senior IT professional and a self-confessed computer nerd, it warms my heart to see that the video for the hot new single “Brooklyn Go Hard,” is actually an open source word cloud done by Evan Roth. And yes, even though this looks like the doings of a random computer nerd, it’s apparently official:

“Last week I was contacted to make a video for a new Kanye West produced Jay-Z song for RED & the Global Fund to Fight AIDS in Africa. It launched today (World AIDS Day) at red.msn.com. And while I’m happy to be able to help the cause I’m also more than a little bit excited about getting a chance to make something for the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye.”

Even also provides a link to download the source code, so nerds like me can create their own videos.

Personally, I feel that this is very dope and very creative, but I understand people who don’t get it. Even so, is this the first open source rap video?

New Music: Jay-Z feat Santogold - Brooklyn Go Hard

Jay-Z feat Santogold - Brooklyn Go Hard

Even though the verdict might still be out on Kanye’s latest project, Mr. West proves that at least his production game is still top notch. Ye flips Santogold’s “Brooklyn we go hard” line from her song” Shove It,” to perfection, topped off with a dub beat, which I didn’t even think Kanye could mess with. And of course, the “retired” MC is still better than most so-called rappers even when he phones it in, which he does here. Unfortunately, this will renew the Santogold vs. MIA rumors that plague the internet. Which hipster female had the best hook on a Kanye-produced track? That’s up for internet nerds to debate. Until then, enjoy the music. “Brooklyn Go Hard,” is going to be on the Notorious soundtrack which drops on January 16th.

Mixtape: Jay-Z vs Coldplay - Viva La Hova

Jay-Z vs Coldplay - Viva La Hova (produced by Mick Boogie and Cookin’ Soul)

This is probably the 1 millionth mixtape with Jay-Z vs __________ (insert Beatles, Marvin Gaye, etc), but these don’t get old in my opinion.

So far it ranks in my top 5 of Jay-Z remix albums right now, mainly cause I’ve been digging both artists since their first albums. Jay-Z and Coldplay approve, and surprisingly, their lawyers do too cause no cease and desist orders have been handed out yet.

Jay-Z + Oasis - Jackin’ Jay-Z (DJ Danny Diggs Mix short)

Jay-Z + Oasis - Justify it Out

Cookin’ Soul Presents Jay-Z + Oasis (Direct Link, right click save as)

It took a while, but the Internets are finally dropping mashups of Jay-Z and Oasis. First DJ Danny Diggs dropped a short 2 minute track and then Cookin’ Soul comes back and drops a whole mixtape.

I get down with Oasis, ever since back in the day when MTV subtitled their interviews cause they were too stoned to speak proper English, and since its already been proven that Hova can rap over anything short of a polka beat, it almost seems natural that some DJ would mix the two together and make it sound good. Cookin’ Soul’s Justify it Out is so good that I almost want to get my people on the phone to facilitate a real Jay-Z/Oasis collabo. (via 2DopeBoyz)

Jay-Z - Live at Glastonbury 2008

Jay-Z - Live at Glastonbury 2008 (via 2dopeboyz, knowxone)

I don’t know if y’all have gotten your hands on the audio of Jay-Z’s performance at Glastonbury, but here it is as a public service. Jay handled the stage with grace and class (youngin’s take notes) and dominated his headlining slot.

Apparently, the haters approve:

Gallagher’s response to the mock performance? He thought the rapper did a great job.

He told People magazine, “I thought it was great. I love Jay-Z.”

“The thing is, I was actually giving my opinion about ticket sales at Glastonbury. And it really wasn’t about hip-hop or anything like that.”

He continues, “I only caught the second half of his set. But everyone says it was great.”

Jay-Z also expressed his intention of making peace with the rocker.

He told MTV, “I haven’t spoken to him (but) I heard he was reaching out… I don’t bear any grudge, it’s all good.”

People Gettin’ Paper: Jay-Z Gets $150 Mil

People are gettin’ paid gettin’ paid! Unfortunately, not me. Gotta work on that in ‘08!

Remember when Jay-Z was reportedly going around asking record execs for $100 million dollars? Remember when people laughed at him.  Well, Hova is laughing all the way to the bank, because he just inked a deal with promoter Live Nation for $150 million dollars:

Jay-Z plans to depart his longtime record label, Def Jam, for a roughly $150 million package with the concert giant Live Nation that includes financing for his own entertainment venture, in addition to recordings and tours for the next decade. The pact, expected to be finalized this week, is the most expansive deal yet from Live Nation, which has angled to compete directly with the industry’s established music labels in a scrum over the rights to distribute recordings, sell concert tickets, market merchandise and control other aspects of artists’ careers.

$150 million dollars. I feel like Dr. Even when I say that out loud.
