From U Street Music Hall Press Release:
Thursday, July 15th Chicago native Melisa Young aka Kid Sister will make her first live appearance in Washington D.C. with supporting acts Tabi Bonney, Roxy Cottontail and Jackie O with professional nails offered to select patrons, courtesy of Nails by Naomi (Brooklyn, NY). Breaking into Billboard’s top 40 in 2008, via her collaboration with mentor Kanye West for the single “Pro Nails”, Young is on the contrary, anything but a top 40 artist. Signed to indie labels Fool’s Gold and Downtown Records, Young has made a notable influence on the underground indie dance music scene; performing at such music festivals as CMJ, SXSW and Lollapalooza and appearing as a featured artist on tracks by Steve Aoki, The Count and Sinden, Carte Blanche (DJ Mehdi and Riton) and U Street Music Hall’s very own Tittsworth for his 2008 single, “WTF”. Young’s debut album, Ultraviolet (released in November of 2009) gives credit to her influences, J.J. Fad, Salt ‘N’ Pepa and Queen Latifah, while exuding a fresh, yet nostalgic style in both her look and music, thus proving her original style as a solo artist.
Advance tickets for this show are $10, available online at www.ustreetmusichall.com. Show is from 9:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., ages 18 and up.
