Video: Soulja Boy At The Wizards Game

DC always gets the most random celebrities to roll through town (like the cheerleader from Heroes stumping for DC Voting Rights). I guess you wouldn’t call Soulja Boy a celebrity but you know what I’m saying.

Anyway, the Wizards/Soulja Boy thing is interesting:

The whole Stevenson-Soulja Boy connection began with Stevenson calling James “overrated” following a Wizards’ victory over the Cavaliers on March 13. James answered by saying that a player of his stature responding to a player like Stevenson would be like rap legend Jay-Z responding to a one-hit wonder like Soulja Boy.

So to get back at LeBron, Stephenson flew in Soulja for Game 3, where the Wiz beat down the Cavs by almost 40 points. Classic.

Tickets are still available for Game 4.

YouTube of The Week: Peter Rosenberg - Duke Fan Stan

Hil arious. Bye Bye Duke! You managed to get whooped by West Virginia this weekend. Elite team my a$$!

And Rome, I gotta jump through hoops to post YouTube vids on Wordpress. Still trying to figure out a better solution though.

Glad to see that Rosenberg hasn’t forgotten the YouTube game.

RIP Sean Taylor

Sean Taylor
(pic from Upset the Setup)

I’m not a Redskin fan by any means, but for some reason, the death of Sean Taylor has affected me in a way I can’t describe. It’s weird. A couple days before he got shot, me and my coworkers were talking about how the Redskins might be playoff bound once Taylor returned to the lineup. When word came that he was shot, a collective WTF blanketed the office. Really? Taylor shot?

The day I heard that Taylor died was a morning that I couldn’t sleep. I woke up around 4 AM, sitting in front of my TV, flipping channels, when the newscasts broke into their regular malaise of traffic and weather to report that Taylor had died, shattering the false hope given by earlier reports that he was progressing and would be okay.

Of course, Taylor was no angel. He’s been in trouble with the law, spit on a player, and missed mini-camp. The media tried to bring this up as a cause for his early demise–only to be disproved when the four people arrested with breaking into his house had no connection to Taylor’s past.

The whole situation is sort of regrettable though. I live in a city where over 170 people have lost their lives to gun violence this year, yet the whole community has come together to mourn one person. Is this selfish? Yes. But maybe, just maybe, people will recognize that Sean Taylors that are walking the streets today, and hopefully someone will reach out to the people like the ones arrested last week, to ensure that such tragedies never happen again.

Michael Vick

? Michael Vick And Dog

I usually don’t write about non-music related topics, but since people want to know my opinion, here it is: Michael Vick is an idiot. Sure, I know that the media, the Feds, and the states are persecuting him and making him an example because he’s Black (you know if he were white he would get more sympathy, look at Lindsay Lohan and her DUI situation), but that should be all the more reason for the dude to watch his back. This whole situation is a classic example of “when keeping it real goes wrong.” I gotta agree with Jemele Hill of ESPN. There are many examples of Black men that live within the law and just because our people have been mistreated for hundreds of years doesn’t mean I should support Vick and his dogfighting efforts. This dude ain’t a martyr for me.

Transformers

Please give me a reason, as a grown man who is turning 27 next month, not to buy this.

And the Transformers movie is hands down the best movie I’ve seen all summer. If you’re an 80’s baby you owe it to yourself to go and see it.

Hope everybody had a good 4th of July cause I know I did, although it did involve biking back home at 1:00 AM tired and slightly intoxicated, but that’s a story for another day.

Wow. Pharoahe Monch only sold 12,000 copies of his album Desire. I shouldn’t be surprised I guess.

And more bad news for lovers of “real” music: Straight No Chaser is shutting its doors. The last issue will be printed in August.

But rap isn’t dead. Word is, T.I. sold 500,000 copies of T.I. vs. T.I.P. I heard the album was wack and the lead single wasn’t getting radio support, but I can’t really hate if the rumor is true.

DJ’s are you finding it harder and harder to break new tracks? Is the top 40 Force to strong to be rekon’d with??

After that Washington City Paper article, it seems everbody’s been talkin’ about the whole “cat call” phenomenon, but Jimi for his part has the best “male response” that you’re ever gonna read.

Did anyone see the Live Earth concerts this weekend? Seriously, is anybody going to start recycling just because the Black Eyed Peas told you to? And don’t look at me, I’ve been using mass transportation and those compact fluorescent light bulbs for 5 years now.

BYT has an interview with my homegirl, the Vagina Lady Alexyss Taylor.

This Is Why You Suck

The DC area’s own Peter “PMD” Rosenberg strikes again, this time taking on those overrated a$$clowns at Duke (over MIMS “This Is Why I’m Hot”). I used to live in North Carolina (about 30 mins from Duke) and pretty much everything he says here rings true. Duke should have never made the tournament this year and much respect to VCU for knocking them out in the first round.

And Peter “PMD” Rosenberg is putting out some of the funniest YouTube videos since that dancing Indian midget. I don’t know too much about the dude, but his ish is funnier than almost anything on TV right now. Check “Throw Some Cheese On It” as a reference.
