Guitar Center Spinoff Tonight

spinoff.gif

If you’re in LA, Detroit, San Francisco, Miami, New Jersey, or NY, you should definitely head over to your local Guitar Center tonight for the regional finals of Spinoff ‘06. From the video, the ish looks off the hook as most DJ scratch jawns go, but the high stakes makes the competition fierce this year. The Grand Prize winner drives off in a new customized Scion Xb. The winners tonight get brand new Technics turntables, Nike kicks and a special J Dilla Deluxe package from Stones Throw Records. Click here for more info and locations.

Banned in DC, Part 1

Props to everyone who came out last Tuesday for Banned in DC. Without ya’ll this wouldn’teven be possible. I tried (keyword tried) to take some pics for the website and for Flickr, but of course my camera sucks. I could only manage about 4 shots out of the almost 20 that I took. So sad. Hopefully somebody will come through with some better lookin’ pictures. But until then:

DIGABLE PLANETS CONTEST

dpcontest.jpg

Digable Planets formed in the early '90s, when Butterfly met Ladybug while attending college in Massachusetts. The two later hooked up with Doodlebug in Washington DC, and began recording. Their first single, “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat),” hit the R&B Top Ten while their debut, Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space), was a critical and commercial success. After embarking on an ambitious tour, which included several live musicians, the Planets returned in late 1994 with their best album. Blowout Comb continued the group's jazz-rap fusion, but also saw them branching out to embrace the old school sound of the street as well. After Blowout Comb, Digable Planets gradually dissolved due to the dreaded “creative differences.”

However, the Planets are back in '05 with The Creamy Spy Chronicles, a collection of hits, remixes, and rarities.

Alright fools, ya'll know the deal. Send an email with your name, age, and location to articleonline@gmail.com to be entered into the contest. Contest ends JANUARY 15th.

Tracklisting after the jump.
