New M.I.A. - Hit That

M.I.A. - Hit That

“Galang,” “Sunshowers,” and “URAQT” are still my jams, and the girl’s live show is one of the best around, but my tolerance for M.I.A. has dropped threefold. “Hit That” is more tolerable than her first single “Bird Flu,” but I’m really only providing this as a public service cause this one’s definitely not making its way to my iPod. Unfortunately like the show 24, M.I.A. has managed to become stale, repetitive, and almost funny. Still, I know the hipsters are gonna get excited like crazy for this one, especially when the Akon remix comes out! (I’m joking.)

New Music Notes: Dilla, M.I.A, Joss Stone

305_jdillawithchild.jpg

J-Dilla & Jay-Z - Dont Cry

First off, happy birthday to the one and only J Dilla. I can’t say more about Dilla that’s already been said, so I will digress. This little mashup of the two J’s - J Dilla and Jay-Z (vocals from “Song Cry,”) is hot! It comes from the upcoming DJ Soul Assorted Donuts mixtape which will have new freestyles from usta Rhymes, Black Thought and Ghostface as well as remixes off of Dilla’s Donuts LP. This will definitely be a good look when it drops as a free download this month. (Props to boogie tonight for this).

MIA - Bird Flu

If you read all the music blogs, you probably have this track already. I’ve been hesitating posting about this track because I’m just not feelin’ it. I was a fan of “Galang,” and “Sunshowers,” but hmm…I’ll marinate on this one for a little longer. I think some people thought that MIA was going to come to America and get the Nelly Futado treatment, but this song puts those suspicions to rest. Hey, I can’t knock her for being herself.

Joss Stone - “Tell Me What We Gonna Do” (feat. Common)
-streaming -

I’m not the biggest Joss Stone fan in the world. If I had to choose a white UK Soul Singer like it was a life or death decision I would go with Amy Winehouse 99.9 percent of the time. Personally I think that the “soul legends” that put all their time behind promoting Ms. Stone should have put at least 40% of that energy behind Ms. Winehouse, but I digress. Even so, this song “Tell Me What You Gonna Do” is winning me over. I have to give her credit, Joss has a pretty amazing and soulful voice.

Kidz in the Hall feat. Jay-Z - “Don’t Stop”

This track is yet another Jay-Z mashup, but whoever made this did a serious number flipin’ Jay’s “Show Me What You Got,” track. Anyway I need to promote Kidz in the Hall more. These dudes are constantly being overlooked and underrated. Ian wonders why? Honestly, I’ve seen these dudes get s*hited on in the online hip-hop community so I’m not surprised that School Was My Hustle didn’t get any traction. Can college educated dudes make good hip-hop? Um, yes. Next question.

You’re Pitiful….

Weird Al Yankovic has a parody of “Ridin Dirty” titled White & Nerdy. Dude always seemed hella corny to me, however he’s flowing kinda crazy on this song. I don’t know if he sees himself as disrespecting hip hop music and culture, or a comedian who appreciates it, and reinterprets his love of it through song, but hes been at this for a while. I’m sure hes got some videos on Youtube you can find.

Nelly Furtado - “Crazy”

Nelly Furtado - “Crazy”

Is it me or is everybody and their baby mama is doing a cover of Crazy. First there was Ray Lamontagne, then that tramp Paris said she’s doing one, and now Ms. Nelly Furtado is taking a stab at it.

When Miss Hipstah sent me this track, the first thing I guessed it that this must be from BBC1’s Live Lounge and it turns out I'm right (yeah I want a cookie). It’s a cool acoustic cover, but dosen’thold up to some of the other Live Lounge covers from the past.

PS: The acoustic version of “Maneater” is off the hook. I'll get ya'll the MP3 when I get the time.

Another Reason I Can’tListen to Rap

sellout.jpg

Paris Hilton - ???Fightin??? Over Me??? feat. Jadakiss & Fat Joe

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Rap is officially over. I know that Paris Hilton was putting out an album. But this? Seriously, this??

When is this ho’s 5 minutes of fame gonna dry up? Damn. I mean, I don’tlike Brittney Spears but at least was famous for having a quasi-decent singing career. This chick is famous for…?

I think I’m gonna boycott Hilton hotels.

Anyway, I’m sure that This reminds me of the Papoose collaboration with that chick Jeanie Ortega. I don’tthink these artists want to do these collabs, but they’re being forced by their record companies and their idea of synergy.

It makes sense. Rap artists want to keep their name up in the suburbs (who generate the most $$$ for them anyway) and rising pop stars want instant street credibility. (Notice I didn’tsay, “street cred.” You have to at least venture into the ‘hood for that.)

Still, isn’tmaking music for the country club set going against the very nature of hip-hop?

New Nelly Futado = Ultimate Wackness

Nelly-Furtado.jpg

Nelly Furtado
(feat Timbaland) - “Promiscuous Girl”
from ???

Damn, this shite sounds like a mashup of “Hollaback Girl”, “My Humps”, a random Neptunes joint, mixed in with some Prince. What happened to Nelly? The chick used to fire but now it seems all she’s doing is chasing trends.

Expect this track to be blowin’ up the dance floors of Iowa soon.

Bonus MP3
: Charlie Murphy on Michael Jackson. Hil. arious.

New Music: “Hoodie” Addias Remix

sov.jpg

Lady Sov - “Adidas Hoodie Remix” (feat. Mizz Beats, Skepta, JME, Ears, Jammer and )Baby Blue

Yes, I think that my jury is still out on Lady Sov, but I just got this remix in my inbox and my ass is just blown away. I don’tcare about what any of y’all say, the UK is still the most innovative country when it comes to music. Peep this UK grime remix and TELL me that you don’tagree.

As much as we want to hate on UK artists like Lady Sov, MIA, and even Dizzie, they’re at least bringing something new and innovative to the table. They’re taking the US hip-hop formula, flippin’ it, and making it something their own. Unfortunately, I think that the US hip-hop public will not embrace our UK brethren like rock circles have been doing.

So what do ya’ll think about the track?
