It was an marketing campaign for the movie Armored (starring Colombus Short, Laurence Fishburne, Matt Dillan, and a slew of other well known actors…click on here to watch the trailer).  The truck was open and you could get in it to watch the trailer for the movie. You could also get a free poster. I’d already seen the trailer for the movie on Apple.com’s trailer page, so I didn’t really want to get in the truck. However, I did want to photograph it, because the art work on the sides was done by the great tattoo and street artist Mister Cartoon. If y’all don’t know his work, you better learn quick. He’s one of the best artists out of the West Coast right now.

The truck is in DC for the weekend and will be featured in the Howard Homecoming Parade. According to IMDB.com, the movie Armored will be released in movie theaters nationwide on December 4th.

Question is….how exactly do you go about finding information regarding “the cool sh-t”? When I say “the cool sh-t” I refer to parties, art events, and music that no one knows about. Is it blogs, email lists, word of mouth? I ask because I have a dope Halloween party coming up, 3 mixes/mixtapes, and 3 opporutinites to start new parties in DC. Kanye x Mark Ronson chop it up for Complex Magazine. Cool read as Ronson is killing it now a days (so much so I tried to cop the album @ Best Buy and it was sold out) and his production/influence is really gaining critical acclaim.

Dizzee Rascal – Sirens

At first this seems like another “black man gets chased by the police” video, until you see that the “police” are actually ridin’ on horses. At first I thought that it had something to do with Redcoats and British colonization (yeah, I watch the History Channel sometimes), but actually it has to do with fox hunting which is basically a messed up way for rich people to kill animals and keep it “classy”. If you haven’t realized it…Dizzee is the fox.

There is enough symbolism and imagery in this video to fill a college sociology class, and the whole blood on little white girl’s face is definitely a new look or hip-hop videos these days. The video reminds me of NWA’s Express Yourself and the beat is a throwback to the early rap-rock collabos of Public Enemy and Ice-T. The rock beat is heavy, and although this is a departure from Dizzie’s grime career, its a good look.

Roc ‘C’ – My Life feat. Aloe Blacc

I know that splicing personal photos in a video is nothing new, but just like the video for “Through The Wire,” it has made for effective storytelling technique. However, what put this video over the top was the “fly on the wall” scenes with Roc C and his boys. The washed out effect and shaky camera angles almost compliment the bleak tale of the dude’s life growing up. The only downside of the video is Aloe Blacc’s fake patois. Still the combination of these elements makes for a fairly unique vid. Even more interesting is that the production value on this video was pretty low, showing those aspiring directors that you can still make a good video with little or no money.
