Oh Lord…What Next?

06_G.jpg

So apparently Three 6 Mafia are gonna collaborate with non other than Paris Hilton. And the article already made the joke:

Three 6 Mafia just made it easier out there for an heiress.

Here’s some more from the report:

The Oscar-winning rappers said Tuesday that they will produce and record tracks for Paris Hilton’s upcoming debut album, which has been in the works practically since Hilton hit the party circuit.

“We ran into her at a William Morris Agency party and she said she liked our song 'Stay Fly' and asked, could we work with her,” Jordan “Juicy J” Houston told Memphis' Commercial Appeal newspaper. The other members of the “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp”-rappin' trio are Paul “DJ Paul” Beauregard and Cedric Coleman.

Biggie’s Fam about to get PAID

From AP:

The city has approved a $1.1 million payment to the family of rapper Notorious B.I.G. as punishment for police negligence during the slain musician’s civil lawsuit trial.

U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper had sanctioned the city after learning that a police detective withheld documents that were pertinent to claims made by the rapper’s family. She declared a mistrial in July.

The payment represents the cost of legal fees and other expenses incurred by the family’s attorneys. City lawyers told the council an appeal was unlikely to overturn the judge’s ruling. The council approved the payment Wednesday.

Glad to see something’s finally being looked into.

We Love You, Ghostface

doll_front.jpg

As we all know, Ghostface Killah has a new album coming out on March 28th.

But more recently, the Ghostface Doll. Now I know that there have been a lot of people waiting and waiting and waiting for this doll to come out. And, as you see above, it’s a pretty amazing doll, though I wouldn’twant to pay $500 for it.

Thanks to Different Kitchen for the heads up.

YouTube of the Day: Friday 80’s Dance Party!

Where would you see a saxophone playing duck and a fish with lips so big, it would make Angelina Jolie’s look like two popsicle sticks?

In Billy Ocean’s video for “Get Out of My Dreams, Get Into My Car” that’s where.

YouTube of the Day: The Streets “When You Wasn’tFamous”

I really like this song AND this video. The whole point of the song is that in a drug induced binge, Mike Skinner (aka The Streets) had some kind of tryst with well known pop star. Who it is however is a mystery. If you go over to Imageyenation, the guys are having the “When You Wasn’tFamous Photoshop Challange” Check it out.

CD Review: Ursula 1000 Here Comes Tomorrow

URSULA1000 - Here Comes Tomorrow COVER (600x600).jpg

If you were to combine pop, hip hop and rock with a dash of reggae and a pinch of salsa and mix it all together in a disco blender, the resulting sound might sound a lot like Ursula 1000.

Alex Gimeno aka DJ/Producer Ursula 1000 can play anything”and I mean ANYTHING”and you will dance to it. In his newly released album Here Comes Tomorrow, there is a continuous mix of the classically clean sound we have come to know and love in lounge music, but there is also something dirty, even raunchy that hides underneath the beats, making you want to do more than just dance.

Coming from DC’s very own Eighteenth Street Lounge label, the Miami-born Gimeno started out as just a kid with a dream and a seriously large record collection. Now, he DJs everywhere from some of New York”s finest night clubs, the Euro nightlife in Germany and the UK, and now at ESL”s SXSW and Miami Winter Music Conference parties. He”s done remixes for artists like SI*SE, Felix da Housecat, The Faint and my personal favorite, The Powerpuff Girls. His track “Kinda Kinky” was featured on the Fighting Temptations Soundtrack. The man has even said “NO” to a supermodel”s song request.

Here Comes Tomorrow will be his fifth release on ESL. As I”ve already said, his tracks are fun and uplifting, but at times, will make you want to get down and dirty. And you can hear every kind of music in his tracks. The track “Hello! Let”s Go To A Disco” is reminiscent of a 1980″s club hit or possibly a Queen-anthem like song. The song “Elecktric Boogie” conjures up images of fashionable b-boys doing the robot at the Roxy. “Two Tone Rocka” is kind of a tribute to the classic roots reggae from whcih much of today’s pop music get its inspiration. “Descarga en la Discoteca” (the translation of which I am not going to say”it”s inappropriate) is a tongue-in-cheek look at that old skool mariachi/salsa music your grandmother might have listened to”crossed with the funky bass lines of a porn score. There”s the single “Boop” which is just a fun track that will definitely make you think of Betty Boop.

There are so many fun things about this album that it’s hard to say who will like it and who won”t. It is such a musical combination that there is something I”m sure everyone can enjoy about Here Comes Tomorrow.

What Ever Happened To?

What Ever Happend To…Gabrielle?

Gabrielle.jpg

Back in the early 90's, a song called “Dreams” came out. It was the song that jump started the career of a young singer named Gabrielle. Her first single went on to go into the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest debut for a female singer after it spent three weeks at number one.

You might remember Gabrielle. She was the singer who always wore an eyepatch. Her trademarked sequinned and satin eye patches were a result of a drooped eyelid, on which she refused to have plastic surgery.

Since her debut album Find Your Way in 1993, Gabrielle had five albums, including a greatest hits album in 2001. She’s had a track on the celebrated soundtrack to Bridget Jones' Diary called “Out of Reach.” She’s won numerous awards and honors in the UK.

But sadly, her last album, Play To Win came out in 2004. That’s roughly about the last time her website was updated too. There doesn’tseem to be much info out there past August 2004, so if any of you know what happend to her, leave a comment.

Here’s a link to the video for her song “I Wish”
