By all accounts, Manchester-based DJ/producer Star Slinger has had a busy year. It began with the release of an EP in January (Sketchy), a mixtape in May (Volume 2), and finally a second EP in December. The latest, We Could Be More, is a six-track collection featuring the vocals of Tunji Ige and Dawn Richard, among others.
The second track on this new EP, “Slow Love,” enlists the delicate, fluttery tenor of Irish singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow and adds skittering breaks and big, house-y beats.
McMorrow’s solo work consists of lots of ethereal acoustic guitar, piano, and falsetto. But “Slow Love” isn’t his first foray into EDM—he teamed up with Kygo earlier this year on “I’m in Love”. Still, Star Slinger’s arrangement and pop sensibilities here on “Slow Love” leverage McMorrow’s vocals into something far superior.
