MUSIC: Overdoz - Boom

overdoz

Two years after the release of Live for, Die for, Overdoz has been relatively quiet. So quiet, people thought they faded away like most artists in this internet age. Sure they released "Dear God" and the banger "Lauren London" last year, but afterwards *crickets*. Well rejoice because the LA crew has released a new promo album titled "Boom". Seventeen original songs handled by The Futuristiks, Brooke D'Leau from J'Davey,  Iman Omari, and THC keeps the Cali vibe going with wavy, smoke filled productions to compliment the lyrics from P/Sleeze, Kent Jamz, Joon/Tube, and Cream. The Gwen Bunn's produced "Inside" gives off a Stankonia Outkast feel while "Lapdance" will have you wanting to drop dollars at some southern strip clubs. Lead single, "Killer Tofu"---a shout of to the Beets' song  from the Nickelodeon show Doug---is a short frantic shit-talking ride and compliments "Babysteps" which is more introspective. Good to see the growth of Overdoz during their "layoff", not only in their lyrics but in their sound.

With the rise of LA crews like Odd Future and Black Hippy, Overdoz is calling next. Like P/Sleeze voiced "I swear we run the city, never mind just watch us prove it." We're watching.

While you wait for the download to finish as well as their first album 2008 coming out in early 2014, watch the video for "Killer Tofu"
