FOOD & DRINK: Raising the Bar at J & G Steakhouse of Washington, DC

Ranked by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the District’s “100 Very Best Restaurants,” J & G Steakhouse was closed for several weeks due to renovations.  Last Wednesday, The W Hotel’s fine dining establishment unveiled its new makeover during the private event, ”Raising the Bar.”

Upon entering into the restaurant, it is obvious the aim was to modernize the elegant eatery.  The previously cream-colored walls were doused with fresh coat of black paint while preserving the trim.  Ornate light fixtures and art were added to both the restaurant and new private areas.  The main dining room now boasts a full bar.  For diners who crave a more intimate setting to enjoy a beverage, Bar 515 and its patio features craft cocktails and a martini cart devised by mixologist Domingo.  The food menu has been updated as well.  Featuring a modern interpretation of steakhouse classics, guests nibbled on hors d’oeuvres including beef carpaccio, skirt steak, beef tartare, crab cake, Kobe hot dog, and warm lobster roll created by Chef Philippe.  As the end of the evening approached, patrons devoured scrumptious desserts such as the heavenly huckleberry pie and divine red velvet ice cream sundae.

Not that it was necessary but J & G Steakhouse’s new visage is more unified with the swanky look of the rest of The W Hotel.  Instead of reading about it, go take a look for yourself.
