DRINK RECIPE: Mulled Wine
by Lea Faminiano
When it’s the holidays, there’s pretty much nothing better than sitting around the fire with a hot drink…unless that hot drink is also a cocktail. Warm alcoholic drinks aren’t everyone’s jam, but this one might change that – make a whole pot of Mulled Wine, a comforting cocktail that is perfect for sipping on a cold night, and as a perk, your place will instantly smell like Christmas.
serves about 6
1 bottle of red wine (we used Cabernet Sauvignon
4 cups apple cider
Zest and juice of one orange
4 tablespoons brown sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
10 whole allspice (or about 5 cloves)
Orange peels, for garnish
Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
Simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.
Pour into mugs and garnish with orange peel.
