Plating.  Use small, light colored plates.  This will minimize whitespace in your pictures and your food will also appear more vibrant.

Accessorize.  Use trendy props such as placemats, ice molds, vintage utensils, fancy napkins, and elegant glassware.

Color.  Use bright colored foods of various hues.  The brighter and fresher, the better.  Also, minimize dark, sanguine colors that will destroy your appetite (i.e., blood or raw meat).

Angles.  It’s all about perspective and most women know this.  It’s not an accident that her chin is tilted the same exact way in every picture.  Take shots from multiple angles with proper natural lighting.  Don’t be afraid to use your camera’s zoom or aperture feature to highlight a particular aspect of the dish.

Work Fast.  Be prepared to take pictures as soon as your food is ready to prevent wilting, cooling, etc. The longer you wait, the less appealing food is to the eye.
