“This year’s Nike Black History Month product collection honors three elite athletes who embody a bold and progressive spirit, both in athletics and social stewardship. Superstars Kevin Durant, Serena Williams and Didier Drogba inspired the 2013 “Be Bold, Be True” mantra and a monumental set of products. This BHM line features a bold repeat pattern, including hand-drawn icons symbolic of the causes each athlete is committed to outside of sports. And in keeping with a tradition of honoring this holiday by giving back to organizations that work to inspire youth, Nike, Inc. will make a financial contribution to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. All BHM footwear and apparel will be available at Nike.com and select retailers beginning January 26.” – Nike.com
The Air Force 1 Foamposites are KD inspired. The signature Air Force 1 strap is laced with this year’s BHM pattern and also features a rim amongst the clouds, somewhere only Durant can reach.
These Serena Williams inspired Women’s Sky High Dunks host the repeated BHM logo theme on its tongue and pays homage to Ms. Williams with the orange tennis ball patterns flying across the entirety of the shoe.
Didier Drogba was Nike’s final inspiration used in the creation of the the Air Force 1 Downtown BHM. With a soccer ball fused with a light bulb on the heel, it represents Drogba’s ongoing involvement in bringing solar light bulbs to impoverished areas in Africa.
Let’s celebrate the month and support these phenomenal athletes who take their talents and turn it into more than just entertainment. Truly Bold and True, on and off the stage.
